More Information About This Class
This is a new Economics program launched by Academia Education Center in partnership with Adam Smith Center.
This new program will be led by the tutor, Bryan Cheang, who has a combined 9 years of experience teaching both General Paper and Economics to pre-university and university undergraduates.
During this period he has helped coach students not only for the major examinations, but also in their university admission efforts. A good number of Bryan’s students have been inspired to study Economics and social sciences at a tertiary level in great institutions including NUS, ANU and Uni Edinburgh.
Bryan is also previously a civil servant with the Singapore government working on economic policies for small-medium enterprises. Hence, he brings his policymaking experience to the classroom as well when teaching Singapore’s economic challenges and policy responses.
Bryan is also currently pursuing a PhD in Political Economy at King’s College London, and as such, is well versed with various economic theories, concepts and challenges in the world.
Our Economics program does not just prepare students to take their final examination, but also help them to think about studying economics and the social sciences more generally in university.
This is why our tutor Bryan has also coached past students in writing their personal statements, and provided further outside-classroom learning opportunities to strengthen their applications. Stronger students on our program may be keen to pursue other learning opportunities and events organised by the Adam Smith Center, which help to strengthen and diversify their CVs. Good economics essays may even be published online for a public audience.
By way of an example, one former student, Darren Seow, had attended a conference on Entrepreneurship and Innovation organised by the Adam Smith Center in 2018, and listed it on his CV to apply for NUS Business Scholarship. He had sent it in together with a reference letter from Bryan, his tutor. He succeeded.
