More Information About This Class
*Since this is a new class, the timing I have set is negotiable. I can teach on weekday afternoon and evening as well*
The 1.5 hour class will prepare students to be confident and score well in school English exams leading to PSLE. Students will be grouped according to their level with a maximum of only 2 students per class for the most attention from me.
The Paper 2 class will cover all sections of the paper, from MCQ grammar to open ended comprehension. I will take the trial class to speak to the student and assess his/her strengths and weaknesses, and we will work together to focus on improving the weak sections.
I will prepare every single class, and I believe that to do well in the long marathon towards PSLE, students have to be familiar and confident with doing the exam paper. This means that I will train students using actual top school / past year exam papers. There will be absolutely no 'sitting down and doing assessment books'. I teach English in a very interactive and methodical way, and I make sure students understand and learn before I move on.
I will also prepare students for their oral examination component in the PSLE, especially the conversation part as many students stumble for that part.
Trial classes will be 1 hour, for me to break the ice with new students and to assess their capabilities in Paper 2.
Tutor's Experience
I have been tutoring exclusively English to Singapore primary school students since 2015, and tutored a Swiss foreign student in 2014. I specialise in Primary School English, training primary school students all the way to PSLE. I am a very methodical tutor and I believe that there are techniques that are very effective in improving English grades. I prepare all lessons and I source for the most effective teaching materials. I do not simply get assessment books and ask my student to do it without having a reason why and having them understand what I want to teach them. I am able to coach Oral component, Paper 1 and Paper 2, although I specialise in Oral component and Paper 2.
I have had 5 students, but I currently teach 2 students to prepare them for the upcoming PSLE. One of my students whom I started teaching in 2015 when she was in Primary 5 was scoring Cs for her Paper 2. She was initially very weak in vocabulary and some sections of Paper 2, but I worked with her weekly and she scored an A for her PSLE in 2016. Her mother was extremely happy because she imagined that her daughter would get a B at the most. In the end, she managed to go to her dream school, St Margaret's Girls School and she is in secondary 1 this year. I also found out that the student likes me as a tutor as she felt I was confident and methodical in the way I taught and she could easily understand and improve in her English. Hence, her mother recommended me to her friend, who hired me as her daughter's english tutor as she is in P6 now and will take her PSLE at the end of next month. I started classes with the Primary 6 student at the start of the year and started teaching her once a week, till four times a week currently. When I first started teaching the P6 student, she was afraid that she would fail her PSLE because she was failing her English and had a very weak foundation in grammar and vocabulary. She has been improving in her grades and she feels that I teach her much better than her school's English teacher.
