Tutor's Experience
Language is my passion, and hence I have been an English Language teacher for the last 15 years, teaching students with varying abilities from schools ranging from special educational institutions to elite schools. My experience in the teaching of English and the Communicative Arts is thus wide, and I understand the needs of different groups of learners.
My students have enjoyed my lessons and progressed in their language acquisition, discovering for themselves that beyond striving for good grades in the subject, striving to become proficient in the language enriches their lives by opening channels through which they can appreciate the beauty within themselves and in the places, people and experiences they encounter in life. Language learning for them becomes more purposeful and ceases to be just another subject in school.
Students I have taught have developed a sense of confidence in communicating in English, whether orally or in writing, and have gone on to participate in competitions held both on the national level and for students of former Commonwealth countries. Many have done well in these competitions, obtaining awards ranging from gold to certificate of participation at the finals. They have also improved their performance in the subject at the National examinations such as the PSLE and the 'O' and 'NA' levels. More importantly, they have found another avenue for self-expression and personal growth.
Professional development is important to me as an educator, and I have sought to be an informed English Language educator, obtaining my Masters Degree in Teaching English from the University of York, England, aside from attaining my Post-graduate Diploma in teaching from the National Institute of Education, Singapore.
