More Information About This Class
For every lesson, I will cover the content of each topic for either physics or chemistry which includes the basics before assigning my students assignments. As I go through the content, I will highlight and write down salient points. After the lesson, I will strongly encourage my students to do a simple mind map or flowchart that summarises the content that I have gone through so that it reinforces their learning. As for the assignments, I will specially select questions for them to complete during and after tuition and go through with them upon completion. In addition, I will give them mock papers on a regular basis which is to be completed under timed conditions to assess their understanding. This allows me to better understand their weaknesses which I will then emphasize and pay more attention. I will also modify my teaching methods accordingly which includes giving more guidance to certain students.
I will also increase level of engagement of my classes by allowing my students to carry out short discussions by expressing what they understand about the topic at every stage. This allows me to correct any misconceptions which strengthen their foundation. I understand that every student has different learning aptitudes; hence, for students that have not yet grasped the concepts, I am prepared to stay behind with the student to explain the basics. This ensures that the students in my group tuition are more or less on the same level.
Furthermore, I hope to make students passionate about their studies, hence I will explain the relevance of science in their daily lives and how it unravels daily phenomena. I will assign them harder questions once they are more confident and in due time, will go through with them exam type questions so that they know the method to score in school examinations. I will explain how to give answers for structured questions that are concise, yet rigorous in explanation and inclusive of key words. For multiple choice questions, I will also explain how to tackle and answer them correctly.
I am Adena Peh and I am 18 this year. I grew up in Singapore and just graduated from Victoria Junior College. I have completed my O levels and I am currently waiting for my A level results which will be out in March 2016. I enjoy teaching physics, chemistry and mathematics, reading, exercising and playing the piano. I feel happy when students understand, are more confident and no longer struggle with their work.
