More Information About This Class

Make Your Math Game Strong with a Smart Approach!
Upper Secondary, JC1, JC2 Students ALL WELCOME.
This is a class unlike any other! That’s because we will go through the following often-forgotten essentials for doing well in any Mathematics examination:
(1) Achieve Crystal Clear Conceptual Understanding
(2a) The Heuristic Approach To Solving Problems
(2b) Killer-Paper Trends: How To Overcome Killer Problems
(3) Memory Clinics: How To Remember Your Formulae Like The Back Of Your Hand
(4) How To Prevent Carelessness

(1)
Have problems understanding some non-intuitive concepts? That’s usually because you accidentally MIS-assumed something. We will drill your understanding to uncover the MIS-assumptions you have, and correct them.

(2a) The Heuristic Approach To Solving Problems
The term “heuristic approach” can be summarised by: Read the question, recognise what “type” it belongs to, take a step that is often used to solve that sort of question

The situation is not as simple as in PSLE Math, but it can sure still help those who blank out in PnC, Integration, Differentiation, Algebra, Vector questions.

(2b) Killer-Paper Trends: How To Overcome Killer Problems in Your End-of-Years, Prelims etc.

If you study your killer prelim papers carefully, you realise that exam setters do use some standard approaches to make questions difficult. Examples are:
A. Use a different notation
B. Employ often-forgotten concepts from your earlier years of education
C. Make question deliberately confusing by injecting constants with variables
D. MANY MORE…
We will go through all of these and suggest how to prepare for them.

(3) Memory Clinics:
Do you have trouble remembering formulae? You will be taught mnemonic exercises to know formulae like the back of your hand.

(4) How To Prevent Carelessness

Do you lose all your marks just because you miss out one 0 here or and “+c” there? You will be imparted with strategies to train your mind to be more careful in future.

Register now as seats are filling. Class size does not matter - it can be taught to 2-3 or 15 to 20 people. There are more slots available than the timing officially posted (Sat 2-3pm). Click on "Enquire" with your available timings and I will get back.

Testimonials for Chai Ru Liang

Ex-student for H2 Math (2016)
by Guest 6 years ago

I was conceptually ok with my maths but was constantly plagued by carelessness and killer questions. Fortunately, he did a more "holistic" approach VS other tutors, and introduced me the heuristics idea of math questions. I completed my prelims and A levels with a solid A.

Actually I was doing fairly ok (Bs and Cs) but did not know how to improve. With the major papers around the corner, she sought help that was catered to her fairly good grade profile and unique problem. We started a session with consultation and diagnosis by looking through her past exam papers and her class tests. I found that she had a strong conceptual foundation, but often forgot formulae and mis-wrote her working under exam circumstances. This is a common anxiety problem that must be dealt with techniques that tap into the subconscious. I therefore decided to focus on this by scheduling regular exam-conditions tests, impart mnemonic exercises to strongly foster accurate recall of complex formulae like quadratic formula (eg. using baa baa black sheep song), surface area of cone formula, length of projection formula.

Student scored above 80 in prelims, and got an unwavering A in her A levels

I was lacking all the basic foundation for my A level maths. I could do the basic questions o, but when faced with trickier questions I got stuck. My tutor saw this and decided to go back to square one. He drilled my understanding and corrected all my wrong assumptions and confusion. After that, we moved on to training to prevent my carelessness. Got an A in Prelims and A Level.
