More Information About This Class

Students who take this class should already be confident in their command of the language, as this class is catered to those aiming for an A1 grade. In this class, you will learn how to write engaging and thoughtful introductions and conclusions for your compositions, use rhetorical devices effectively, vary your sentence structure, fine-tune your word choice, and more. Articles may be assigned for reading, and you will learn how the same piece of evidence can be recycled to support arguments across different questions.

Tutor's Experience

I graduated from NTU WKW, one of the top 5 communications programs in the world, where I trained in journalism and research. I have also been a writer for Skyscanner, and attended law school previously. In Hwachong, I was the top 10% of the cohort in GP and had my essays published as model answers. My last GP student went from a U to B at A levels. Some of my other students improved from fail to B (IP English), B to talent programme (IP Literature), fail to B3 (O level English). I am also experienced in teaching international students from China learning English as a second language, as well as students on the autism spectrum. My method of teaching is to equip students with the skills for them to learn independently. Instead of spoon-feeding, I will give hints and ask leading questions, because I want my students to go through the process of critical thinking and arrive at conclusions on their own. To get the most out of engaging me as a tutor, students should read articles I send them and be ready to discuss during lesson time. My students must also be willing to work consistently, and not be afraid to try. Students should also keep a journal (electronic or hard copy) of mistakes they have made, for me to periodically refer to and test them on. I generally assign minimal or even zero homework, unless parents request for more.
