More Information About This Class
General Paper has broadly three components: language (grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, etc), content knowledge (understanding of the issues), and critical thinking techniques (how to argue, how to spot weak arguments, etc).
Unfortunately, its difficult to cover all areas sufficiently in a school setting with many students. As such, this class will help supplement your learning in school by providing you with the following experiences:
- Critical thinking skills including the ability to analyse articles and evaluate them, generate new ideas, and formulate your own opinions.
- New perspectives on important, controversial topics relevant in GP
- Access and information on key debates in society
This class will be thought-provoking, challenging, and intellectually stimulating. My previous students have personally testified of being more confident in their beliefs and reasoning abilities after our sessions where we discuss issues deeply.
I have extensive experience teaching GP to JC students, and offer a strong grasp of key issues owing to my research interests and strengths in the areas of philosophy, politics and economics.
Tutor's Experience
I'm 25, and a graduate from NUS in Political Science and History. My academic interests are my passion, and they fall in the areas of political philosophy, political economy and economic history.
I have much experiencing teaching humanities subjects only: GP, Economics and History, owing to my background and training. I believe in the importance of critical thinking as a component in any humanities education, and have done debate coaching and taught students on these skills.
