More Information About This Class

I am an ex-MOE teacher now doing private tuition in my home. I taught at a top all-boys school for 5 years.

My teaching style will suit visual learners who enjoy learning through videos, animations, flowcharts, mindmaps and diagrams. I make learning relevant by sharing current research in the field and seek to help students understand and apply concepts, rather than just memorise them.

I am very familiar with the Learning Outcomes stipulated by Cambridge and follow them very closely, teaching students how to use it as a guide for making their own notes and for their studying. I am also very familiar with examination skills and questions and am capable of preparing students for different types of examination questions.

Tutor's Experience

I have been tutoring since I was the age of 17 years old. Over the past 17 years, I have had over 30 students and every single one of them has graduated with a minimum of B3, most attaining an A1.

Testimonials for Tan Wei Ling Leonie Francesca

Ex-Student

Be it a direct student of hers or not, Mrs Leonie Tan will still reach out to you if you need a helping hand, even in areas she was not a department teacher in such as Chemistry or Mathematics. Her patience and guidance in teaching is definitely a forte that not many tutors/teachers possess. In the years I consulted her during my secondary school days where I was struggling in subjects such as AMath and Chemistry, her teaching had allowed me to have a deeper understanding of these subjects.
From a student who consistently scores an F9 for both of these subjects during school examinations, I had managed to pull up my grades to an A2 for Chemistry and A1 for AMath for my O Levels 2 years ago, largely due to the foundation Mrs Tan had instilled in me.
Definitely a teacher who goes beyond her call of duty.

Leonie taught me chemistry/physics both e and a mathematics from Sec 1 till Sec 4.
I scored a distinction, A1, in all three subjects for O levels.

She is a teacher who would create notes and formula's for you, in your weak topics so that you could always have a go to when stuck at a question. With her guidance and constant help, I started to improved greatly hence scoring the distinctions.

She also increased my desire to become a mathematician!!! She was an amazing tutor!

Leonie taught me Chemistry and Elementary Maths for 2 years leading up to my O-Levels in Sec 4. Prior to this, both Chemistry and E Maths were amongst my worst performing subjects, with me scoring mostly C6 for Chem, and failing E Maths horribly from Sec 2 onwards (E8 and also one F9).

When I completed my O-Levels, I scored A1 for Chem, and B3 for E Maths. One can see the wide gap that was crossed once Leonie started as my tutor.

Leonie is patient, kind and friendly, and these qualities even further complement her teaching ability. She has this unique ability to tailor and adapt her teaching style, method and pace for each student under her care. With her deep knowledge of the subject matter, she easily crafts methods of explanation that simplify and help students understand otherwise complex topics.

I would then call on Leonie again, 3 years later towards the end of my polytechnic education as I needed her guidance for Additional Maths and Calculus which were required for University entrance. Again, she was there to lend her knowledge and teaching ability to help me prepare. A testament to her knowledge, teaching ability and kindness.

Leonie is an extremely gifted tutor, and I am forever thankful that she was my tutor when I most needed help.

Ms Tan isn't one of those teachers who just take their jobs simply as their profession. She will definitely give her best to each and every one of her student. She always goes out of her way to help her students, be it the subject she taught me or any other subject, she was always ready to help me. She stayed back late after school or even came earlier to school to help us.

She makes lessons much more fun, even topics that some may think is very boring, Ms Tan finds ways to make it more interactive and relevant such that we can relate to it and grasp the contents easily. She isn't one to just give large chunks of texts to memorise (she doesnt even agree with the idea of "just memorise") instead she uses animations, videos and her brilliant flowchart and mindmaps along with her detailed drawing to get the contents across.

A teacher with a heart, her professionalism and handwork sets her apart from the rest. She continues to motivate and encourage her students to excel and maximise their potential! Ms Tan is definitely a tutor who would be able to lead any student to excellence!

Leonie is, to put it as simply as possible, an amazing teacher. Having worked with her for many years in a challenging and demanding school environment, I can attest to her dedication and her commitment to her students. To Leonie, her students will always come first. She is always willing to spend time with them to help them understand their content matter better and to help them become adept at applying that knowledge in practice. Although she is only required to teach Biology in school, she has never shied away from helping students with other subjects that also fall under her area of expertise; such as the other Sciences and Mathematics. She has an uncanny ability to simplify the most difficult of concepts which, invariably, helps students to better grasp and understand the knowledge. But what truly sets Leonie apart is her genuine care and concern for her students. She never gives up on them and she is always on hand to offer encouragement to all. Her heart of gold, her selfless nature and her friendly disposition makes her extremely relatable to students. They are also qualities that made her an extremely important asset to our school. Suffice to say, Leonie would make an excellent tutor for any student.

Ex tuition teacher and good friend

Leonie used to teach me back in secondary school and Junior College. Her unique style in teaching encouraged me to want to understand the topic a bit more. She sparked interest in the subject and always ensured that I understood the concept and reasoning Instead of memorizing it.

What I was always impressed with was her immense patience with me. She never once lost her temper at me and instead encouraged and motivated me to be a better version of myself.

I am thankful to her for instilling a strong foundation in mathematics in me. Without her, I would not have taken such an in depth interest in mathematics, which eventually led me to pursue a career in the Financial Services industry.

I would definitely highly recommend her to anyone who would like to push themselves to the next level. Because of her, I scored an A1 in Elementary Mathematics and A1 in Advanced mathematics for O levels and also an A in C Mathematics for A levels!

Ms Leonie Tan is a really great and understanding teacher who goes out of her way to help her students!

She goes beyond her duties to ensure that her students understand the content and more than anything she is a great confidant and listener who plays a motherly role!

Close friend

Leonie has always been a good teacher. Off and on the books. Her patience and passion in teaching is what I admire most. Chemistry was my weak subject and with her help, I managed to scored an A2 for combined science. She had unique teaching methods that was very easy to understand.

Moreover, she is a close friend and that made it a lot easier to communicate.

Would definitely recommend her to any body I know who needs a tutor!

Ms Tan was my chemistry tutor from about August 2015 up till the O Level Period (in 2015). I always found chemistry a very boring and dry subject, especially since there is a lack of visual learning and a difficulty in imagining reactions.

However, by the 2nd lesson, I was baptized in the spirit of chemistry, credit to Ms Tan's simple yet successful teaching model. She would question our understand and help us dig deeper. Moreover, she would always be ready to stop us when we were going too far and help keep us on track. She is the kindest, most generous and the funniest chemistry teacher I have had the privilege of being under. I would highly highly highly recommend her tutoring services.

Leonie taught me math, physics and chemistry and turned my O level grades from C6s to A1s over a period of six months.

She has an amazing ability to adapt her teaching style according to the needs of her students. In my case, she knew I was a linguistic and visual learner and helped to "decode" math and science through language and diagrams as opposed to figures and equations.

Leonie is patient, kind and approachable. She focuses on helping her students think and understand rather than memorise and regurgitate.

She uses her experience as a teacher and familiarity with curriculum to help all students excel regardless of their academic background and capabilities. Her dedication was key to helping me achieve the grades needed to make it to Junior College.

Leonie helped me out during my O level year. She taught me chemistry e maths and social studies. I initially went to her just for chemistry but she always made time and helped me out my other subjects when I ask. She turned my grades that usually I get c4 and c5 for to A2. I was very greatful to have her improve my grades dramatically. When i was in pre u. She helped me with my stats module because I had no prior A math knowledge and in the span of 2 months got a B+ for the class. She also helped me with my economics and accounting modules and would recommend her to anyone struggling or getting mediocre results in the subjects she is comfortable with.

Thank you Leonie. I wouldn't be where I am today without you being patient with me and my short attention span for learning
