BLUEPRINT FOR GENERAL PAPER SUCCESS
The Ultimate Course for Achieving Success in the General Paper - The Essay and Comprehension
Duration: 2 hours per class.
Rates: $400 for a class of 1. $360 per student for a class of 2.
For junior college students who are challenged by the rigorous demands of the General Paper, this is the complete course to equip you with the essentials to excel in this demanding subject. The General Paper pre-supposes wide reading and extensive practice in clear comprehension. It requires the student to read widely as this course deals with a large array of topics. Above all, the General Paper tests both the student's maturity of thought, and maturity of language.
I have created a course outline that encompasses a broad spectrum of topics that have been frequently examined in the essay component. These include the central theme (to being human) of political concepts - politics has sometimes been described as the study of 'who gets what, where and how?'. Students will explore the concepts of democracy, socialism, communism, political parties and systems, human rights and the quest for peace. Another current topic is the impact of the mass media on the communication and control of information, and increasingly, the rise of the internet and its impact on censorship. Other topics include the arms race, the balance of power, the global spread of terrorism, science and technology, climate change and global warming, energy independence, food scarcity and sustainability, overpopulation and urbanisation, social issues and civics, the arts and culture, the role of history, and other hot topics.
There will be lively discussions on the above topics, such as on international politics - the impact or lack of, of the Trump presidency or a rising, dominant China on world affairs and the global economy. Students will get to debate on topics such as social inequality and racial discrimination, poverty and social welfare, women's rights and many more.

Comprehension and The Application Question
There will be extensive and critical analysis of various comprehension passages, both on a group, and individual basis.

Tutor's Experience
An editor who has reported on Asian energy markets for over a decade. I have interviewed dozens of global energy leaders, state-owned oil companies and regional multinationals. As a journalist, I have focused on a disciplined approach to news writing and good copy editing.
I have been tutoring since 2007 (10+ years experience). I'm currently providing full-time tuition in English, the General Paper and Business Communication. I also teach IGCSE English and English A: Language and Literature at the Students' Inn.
I have coached many students over the years, applying the same writing techniques to help them. My students have not only made academic progress, scoring A-B grades, but have also developed critical thinking and analytical skills, and have shown maturity in their writing.
Besides helping the students to get a firm grasp of the foundational basics of the English language; my focus has been to help students hone their writing styles, to master clarity of expression, and be more articulate in their communication. I understand that each student is different, hence my teaching strategy will vary depending on the student's level of mastery, learning capacity and personality.
Apart from the class for the General Paper, please also check out my classes for secondary English and GCE 'O' Level English, and call me for a 1-to-1 or small group coaching on effective business communication.
Please contact/call me for a discussion on how we can work together to help you ace the General Paper. I'm available via WhatsApp/SMS on 65 98502770 or email at [email protected]
