More Information About This Class

PAPER 1:
Unlike school teachers who focus on covering content and current affairs topics, I provide rigorous training and guidance on the techniques and structure you can follow to write ANY essay. For the past 4 years, I have been applying a unique formula I came up with to help students who are weaker in English/writing to come up with an opinion for ANY essay question and topic.

PAPER 2:
Comprehension skills and rigorous training for the Application Question. Instead of just providing you textbook answers, I will analyse in depth with you why your answer is inadequate, and explain clearly how to arrive at the correct answer.

TEACHING STYLE:
I see my role as a tutor as more of a mentor, which differs from the school teacher's role as an instructor. This means that I view our learning journey together as a partnership, which requires equal effort from your side. I have taught students who were not willing to put in the equal effort that I put in to teach and guide them, and the results were not good. I believe it takes a collaborative effort between us to achieve good results.

If you are weaker in your English foundation, I will explain grammar rules and fundamentals to you, and not assume that you already know them. No question is too embarrassing to ask. Also, I will encourage and expect my students to read actively on their own, and will provide additional materials for them to read during the time between our lessons.

I am also more of a hands-on teacher. Instead of just commenting your essays, I will personally demonstrate to you the skills that I have taught you, and write paragraphs or full essays to show you examples.

As most of my students are weak in writing and/or from the science stream, GP intimidates them. I have helped many students overcome their fears by developing systematic ways of teaching essay writing skills so it makes more sense in a logical way.

Though I studied in one of the top JCs in Singapore, the way they taught GP there was not enough for me to truly master essay writing. I grasped the techniques on my own by reading widely and thinking of GP in a more structured way, and feel compelled to impart my knowledge to students who might be feeling similarly lost.
